The Carolina Jazz Connection with Larry Thomas, a lecture about the fact that there are over 75 native North Carolina jazz musicians, will take place February 3, 2014 at 6:30 pm, at The Farmville Public Library, 4276 W. Church Street, Farmville, North Carolina.
Thomas, a veteran Chapel Hill, North Carolina-based writer/radio announcer/historian, who holds a M.A. in History from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has given the lecture at schools, colleges, universities and public places throughout the East coast since 2008. His emphasis is on the historical reasons, the contributing factors that caused so many natives, like Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Max Roach and Nina Simone, to become well-known musical masters.
Thomas, who has worked at seven radio stations, is the host “Sunday Night Jazz” on WCOM-FM (www.wcomfm.org), Chapel Hill-Carrboro, North Carolina. He was selected a critic in the 2012 and 2013 downbeat Critics Poll, is a contributor to several jazz-related websites, and is the author of the much-read article, “The Lady Who Shot Lee Morgan.”
