February is all about the heart: valentine’s cards, boxes of heart-shaped chocolates and red roses. It’s also Heart and Stroke month – a great time to donate proceeds from your upcoming crooner album, A Return to Romance. And that’s exactly what Randy Lyght is doing.
The CD is scheduled for release on February 13, 2014, the same day he is playing at The Registry Theatre in Kitchener. He is joined onstage by with classical pianist Olena Klyucharova.
Raising funds for The Heart and Stroke Foundation hits home for Randy – he’s seen the effects on his family; he’s had more than one family member pass away from a heart attack or stroke, including his mother and his father.
“If I could stop just one person from watching their loved one suffer with this, I would,” he said. “My hope is that the proceeds do just that.”
The jazz vocalist takes you to the days of wading through the static on the AM dial to find the crackling sound of horns, sliding brushes and Tony Bennett’s soothing voice; it’s the music that compelled your father to wrap his arm around your mother’s waist and dance in the kitchen. With rich vocals and a five-star band behind him playing hits such as “It Had to be You,” “The Best is Yet to Come” and “La Vie en Rose,” Randy Lyght’s show at The Registry Theatre is like step- ping into a jazz club in the 1950s; his refreshing take on the swinging standards will bring you to a simpler time, if only for one night.
Last month, two of Mr. Lyght’s songs on the much-anticipated A Return to Romance, including “All in Fun” and “Witchcraft,” earned the Kitchener-resident his second Factor Grant (www.factor.ca). This grant honours exceptional Canadian talent.
