Called “one of the best Argentine singers ever” and “a song researcher with a vibrant voice,” Sofia Rei is emerging as a star while still holding firm to the scholarly mission of discovering and performing song forms and rhythms rarely heard outside their native cultures.
Rei’s quartet of like-minded individuals share her passion for exploring the deep troughs of Latin rhythms.
Sofia Rei – vocals, charango
Eric Kurimski – guitar
Jorge Roeder – upright bass
Franco Pinna – drums, percussion
Rei won the 2013 Music Awards for best song and best album. She’s performed with Bobby McFerrin, Maria Schneider, Lionel Loueke, John Zorn, and Geoffrey Keezer’s Grammy nominated Aurea.
“Possessing a voluptuously full voice, comprehensive command of Latin American rhythms, an encyclopedic knowledge of folkloric forms from Argentina, Peru, Colombia and Uruguay, Sofia has become an essential creative catalyst on a scene teaming with musicians eager to blend jazz with its South American Siblings.”- Andy Gilbert, the Boston Globe
