Alan Chan Jazz Orchestra, a 17-member big band comprised of some of the best Jazz
musicians in Los Angeles, is celebrating the Chinese New Year in a performance on
Monday, February 11 at 8:00 and 9:30 p.m. at TYPHOON at Santa Monica Airport.

This concert features creative and genre-shaking compositions by internationally-recognized composer and band leader Alan Chan, which includes world premieres of new works, such as country-styled Rancho Calaveras and Chow Fun Mean – a culinary epic.

Alan’s music often takes inspiration from his life experiences as a resident in various parts of the world – Los Angeles, New York City, Hong Kong and Vienna. Alan fearlessly uses his
music to raise awareness of current issues such as environmental protection. It often
intertwines with other creative art forms such as contemporary poetry.

Alan Chan was the winner of the 2011 ArtEZ Jazz Composition Contest, Netherlands for
his composition Tzu Zu Ku, dedicated as a symbol of hope to the people of Japan after the
March 11, 2011 earthquake. Dr. Chan is also a recipient of honors from ASCAP, New Music
USA, Percussive Arts Society and St. Matthew’s Music Guild, among others.

His big band works have been performed by Chuck Owen and the Jazz Surge (Tampa), Millennium Jazz Orchestra (Netherlands), Gateway Jazz Orchestra (Los Angeles) and by college / high school big bands in Medfield (MA), Miami, Redlands (CA) and Los Angeles. He is scheduled to record his first big band album in April 2013 at the Bridge Recording Studio in Glendale. Visit alanchanmusic.com.
