Skip Bolen, jazz photographer, was awarded the 2013 Jazz Photo of the Year on Wednesday (19 June), the Jazz Journalists Association announced the 2013 JJA Awards for Journalism and Media at the Blue Note Jazz Club in NYC. It was a B+W photo of Lionel Ferbos that was from 06 May 2012 from the Preservation Hall and Friends 50th Anniversary Celebration at the  “2012 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Presented By Shell – Day 7″….. Lionel Charles Ferbos (born July 17, 1911) – a New Orleans Jazz Trumpeter and at 102 years old, is the oldest performing jazz musician in New Orleans. Skip Bolen was also interviewed by Eve Troeh of WWNO and was featured on NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturday in a piece entitled ‘At Jazz Fest, Photographers Have A Culture All Their Own’  about what it’s like to be a photographer at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
