The highly anticipated first album by The Euro Jazz Quinteto, A Slow Ride, is scheduled to drop on December 5, 2025. The ensemble features three members of the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra and two seasoned jazz musicians from beyond the orchestra’s ranks. Their deep commitment to jazz drives their sound and fuels their collaboration. Even during the challenges of the pandemic, they maintained weekly rehearsals, keeping their skills sharp and their connection strong. In the time since, their acclaim has only grown, with performances across Xalapa, Mexico City, and at the Euro Jazz Festival.

Jakub Dedina, from Czechia, brings his expertise on trombone. He grew up playing jazz alongside his father, contributing much of the group’s material over the years.
Andrzej Dechnik, a native of Poland, started out in the Polish jazz scene before moving to Mexico in the 1970s, where he transitioned into symphonic music. Now serving as the Orchestra’s principal bassist, he also composes pieces for the group.
Rodrigo Álvarez, born and raised in Xalapa, serves as the Orchestra’s tympanist. His connection to jazz runs in his blood—his father was a local jazz pioneer and has been teaching drums for decades.
Tim Mayer, originally from the US, relocated to Xalapa to teach at Veracruz University’s Center for Jazz Studies (JazzUV). Today, he stays busy as a composer, arranger, performer, and world traveler.
Zvonimir Tot, an experienced jazz guitarist from Serbia, studied in Hungary and the Netherlands before settling in the US. Although retired from full-time teaching, he continues to give lessons and perform locally.
A Slow Ride, was recorded live at Estudios Revolución in Coatepec.
