Sounds of April & Randall is an award-winning duo formed by vocalist April May Webb and Trumpeter Randall Haywood, whose shared passion for music and undeniable artistic chemistry gave rise to a creative partnership that is as inspiring as it is distinctive. Partners in both life and music, the duo officially began their collaboration after recognizing a powerful musical synergy, leading to the release of their first single in 2015. Since then, they have continued to captivate audiences with a sound that is both deeply rooted in jazz tradition and boldly expansive in its reach.
A graduate of William Paterson University, April May Webb was named the 2024 Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition Winner. Randall Haywood, a Juilliard-trained trumpeter and former member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, brings exceptional depth and distinction to the duo’s sound. Together, under the guidance of T.S. Monk and Ledisi, they have earned national recognition, including Billboard-charting music and performances alongside artists such as Gregory Porter, Ron Carter, Danilo Perez, Terri Lyne Carrington, Ludacris, and T-Pain.
As U.S. Cultural Ambassadors through American Music Abroad, Sounds of April & Randall have shared their music internationally, offering audiences a compelling expression of artistry, culture, and connection. Their work stands as a graceful fusion of musical excellence, emotional authenticity, and timeless style.
Dishes Ain’t Clean
Dishes Ain’t Clean introduces April Webb and Randall Haywood as more than a jazz duo — it presents them as artists unafraid to let people see the mess behind the masterpiece. What begins as a simple image of dirty dishes in the kitchen becomes the album’s central metaphor: the unfinished, imperfect parts of life that most people hide, especially in the curated world of online self-presentation. In April Webb’s hands, that idea becomes a creative statement about honesty, vulnerability, and connection. Rather than polishing away the rough edges, she leans into them, suggesting that what is most real is also what is most relatable.
