2026 Holiday Single: Christmas Everyday
This holiday season, MzVal invites you to experience a heartfelt chapter of her incredible musical story with the release of her new single, Christmas Everyday. Written by the legendary comedian and entertainer Redd Foxx nearly 40 years ago, the song finds its moment as MzVal brings it to life with her unique voice and artistry.
MzVal’s journey through music is one of resilience, passion, and connection. A dynamic vocalist and performer, her career has taken her from jazz stages to theatrical productions, and from opening for legendary musicians to gracing screens in acting roles. Now, she honors her remarkable path and the relationships that have shaped her, wrapping it all in the magic of the holidays.
Her story began in San Antonio, Texas, where a life-changing moment at St. Mary’s University launched her into the world of jazz. A scholarship audition—where she sang the iconic Lullaby of Birdland—earned her a spot performing with the St. Mary’s Big Band. Over four years, she dazzled audiences and had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to open for jazz greats Dizzy Gillespie and Mel Tormé at the San Antonio Jazz Festival. From there, her talents expanded into musical theater, professional modeling, and even singing the national anthem at San Antonio Spurs games.
But the most unforgettable twist in her career came after graduating college, when MzVal moved to California to reconnect with family. While performing in Los Angeles talent competitions, she captured the attention of Redd Foxx’s manager. This serendipitous meeting led to a life-changing opportunity: opening for Foxx in Las Vegas. That introduction blossomed into a cherished friendship and mentorship, with Foxx giving MzVal the lyrics and music for Christmas Everyday—a treasure she has carried with her for decades.
MzVal’s career flourished further when she became a Raelette, performing alongside the legendary Ray Charles for two years. Her acting career also blossomed, earning her a Screen Actors Guild card with a role in Across the Tracks. She continued working with Foxx, appearing in the iconic film Harlem Nights and joining Della Reese’s original musical The Message Is in the Music. Working with Reese became another defining chapter, deepening her roots in music and performance.
Her family’s musical legacy also weaves beautifully into her journey. Through her father’s side of the family, MzVal discovered ties to renowned jazz musicians John Clayton and Jeffrey Clayton, as well as Los Angeles session guitarist Marlo Henderson. She formed a particularly close bond with Jeffrey Clayton, who became her son’s godfather. Their collaboration extended to the moving album Listen Through the Looking Glass, a deeply personal project that now carries special meaning following the loss of Jeffrey Clayton and Marlo Henderson.
More recently, MzVal released Simply Me, a stunning album arranged and produced by John Clayton, featuring an extraordinary lineup of musicians, including Gerald Clayton, Lewis Nash, and Rickey Woodard. As part of this project, she recorded The Very Thought of You, one of Jeffrey Clayton’s favorite songs, as a heartfelt tribute to his memory.
Now, MzVal is ready to share another deeply meaningful piece of her story. Christmas Everyday is more than just a holiday single—it is the realization of a gift from Redd Foxx that has waited nearly 40 years to find its voice. While the song was briefly released by Gladys Knight, it never reached its full potential. MzVal’s interpretation breathes new life into this holiday treasure, connecting her journey as an artist to the timeless joy of Christmas music.
With its rich history and emotional resonance, Christmas Everyday isn’t just a festive tune—it’s a celebration of love, legacy, and the bonds that make music a gift for all seasons. For MzVal, it’s a chance to honor the relationships and experiences that have shaped her life while inviting listeners to create new holiday memories. This Christmas, let MzVal’s soulful voice and the enduring legacy of Redd Foxx fill your heart with warmth and joy.
