PHILADELPHIA–An incredible week of jazz comes to The Kimmel Center this March when Ellis Marsalis and Sons perform in Verizon Hall on Sunday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. and the great Sonny Rollins makes his Kimmel Center debut on Friday, March 7 at 8 p.m.

He’s the kind of guy other sax players compare themselves to .. and look up to — without a doubt! Hailing from New Orleans, the Jazz Capitol of the World, Johnny grew up among the best musicians in the world, and is one of them. How can he not be, when he has inborn talent; as well as indelible musical influences like Louis Prima, Sam Butera’s immortal sax virtuosity, Al Hirt’s trumpet beauty, and Boots Randolf’s sax excellence to grow from. Tin ears would fair well in that kind of musical environment.
