Karen’s musical performance history includes orchestras, chamber groups and musical theater. Her previous three albums include In the Name of the Father, And of the Son, And the Holy Spirit. She is also a co-leader with her husband Norbert Stachel, noted saxophonist and woodwinds master, of the jazz septet “LehCats.” The septet has released two albums, Out of the Bag and Movement to Egalitaria.

Karen established her own orchestra , a non-profit with open doors for all musicians of color, regardless of age or musical background, titled “The Black Philharmonic Orchestra” (dba as/”Let’s Play — Harmonizing Culture Through Music Inc”).

She has a BA in Music from Cal State and a Masters in Music from San Francisco State University. Her most influential teachers have been Paul Renzi, principal flutist with an Francisco Symphony, Denis de Coteau, music director of the San Francisco Ballet, and Chuck Israel, jazz bassist and Jazz professor at Cal State, where she also performed with Chuck’s Little Big band.
